For those who aspire to own a yacht, the first step is obtaining a yacht license. Many people approach this with great enthusiasm, but half of them often give up once they see the registration requirements.

Common reasons include the separation of theoretical and practical training locations, dissatisfaction with the training vessels, or poor learning environments.

In this article, we will discuss how to choose the right training center and the benefits of making the right choice.

Why Choosing a Quality Yacht Training Environment Matters

Training at Budai Marina is more than just getting a license and leaving. Our training site features various imported vessel types, allowing students to discover the type of boat they truly love during their training.

The only authorized power-driven small boat training center in the Yunlin-Chiayi area (MOTC Maritime and Port Bureau Ref: 1090907-Hang-Nan-Zi-1093304183).

  • Professional instructors and small-class teaching
  • Training and testing on the same vessels and at the same location
  • Government subsidies available for veterans and their families

At Budai Marina, beyond just learning how to operate a boat, you will learn essential skills for boat ownership, including port clearance procedures, daily maintenance, mooring etiquette, and practical tips for self-driving island hopping to Penghu.

More importantly, Budai Marina provides a comfortable and friendly environment, ensuring you obtain your license under the best possible conditions and are ready to apply your skills in the future.

Choosing the Right Training Vessel

"A workman must sharpen his tools if he is to do his work well." It is crucial that the vessel you learn on is similar to the one you intend to use in the future.

Most students are training for recreational boat licenses and plan to purchase a standard yacht. Therefore, it is best to learn on a standard-sized yacht equipped with advanced electronic controls.

Training on such vessels allows students to transition seamlessly to their own boats without the confusion of learning new equipment or operation styles later on.

Introduction to the Japanese NJM Vessels Used at Budai Marina

A leader in Japanese fishing boats, New Japan Marine was founded by Mr. Hikomatsu Nakakita in Ise City, Japan, in 1964. The company utilized fiberglass construction techniques brought by American engineer AK Ochsendor to build large yachts for export to the US. In 1970, the company moved to its current location in Aritaki-cho. Known for building passenger ships, research vessels, and fishing boats, they are recognized as one of Japan's leading FRP boat manufacturers.

As a training vessel at Budai Marina, the NWF27 embodies the rigorous Japanese craftsmanship. It features a walk-around deck design and a unique water-jet-inspired hull that ensures stability, preventing side-slipping or drifting during turns, making it the perfect partner for sea fishing.

NWF27 Detail

In addition to standard navigation systems, the NWF27 is equipped with the Automatic Identification System (AIS). AIS is an information exchange and identification system for maritime vessels, facilitating communication between ships and shore stations, and is used for dynamic vessel positioning.
