Princess Yachts: Royal Heritage, Refined in Every Detail

The British Princess Yachts company demonstrated its prowess at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show with a fleet of yachts featuring stunning design and innovation. This British luxury yacht manufacturer is proud of its impressive display, which included seven large yachts from five different model series. However, the unique aspect of this display was that, despite record-breaking sales affecting the debut of entirely new models, each yacht showcased a focus on the customer, customization, and continuous design and engineering evolution—the cornerstones of this forward-thinking brand.

Princess Yachts Display

Based in Plymouth, UK, Princess Yachts' history dates back to 1965. Its products differ from other mid-range cruising yachts through focused design and engineering, continuous innovation and development of its product lines, and an impressive facility where all interior, furniture, joinery, and metalwork manufacturing are done in-house.

The latest model lineup covers everything from the V-class fast sports yachts starting at the V40, to the X-class super flybridge yachts, including the latest flagship, the X95 motor yacht. The Fort Lauderdale Boat Show featured the F45 and F55 flybridge yachts, the thrill-seeking V50, the agile and efficient S62, the stunningly elegant Y72 and Y85 motor yachts, and the aforementioned X95.

Continuous Development of New Princess Yacht

The philosophy of continuous model development at Princess Yachts gained momentum in the 1990s when the manufacturer introduced nearly 40 new models to the market, including the Princess 65—the largest production yacht in the UK at the time. By 2007, the first flagship yacht, the Princess 95, was launched, followed a year later by the V-class flagship, the V85. Continued expansion has brought the facility area to over 1.1 million square feet, with six shipyards within a 15-mile radius. In 2012, the company launched the award-winning 40M, its largest build to date.

What makes this brand unique is that it is a serious production manufacturer committed to growing alongside its customer base, offering a variety of yacht models to suit a wide range of yachting lifestyles. On average, the company introduces three to five new models to the market annually, and each model is expected to undergo a mid-cycle refresh during its five-to-seven-year lifespan. You might imagine that the challenge lies in maintaining a consistent brand appeal across such a diverse product range, but this is exactly where the depth of Princess's internal capabilities and resources comes into play.

Every new model concept begins at the Princess Design Studio—comprising no fewer than 14 internal design teams, including CAD and engineering departments, design and naval architecture departments, and unique customer-facing consultants whose duties include creating various design schemes to suit customer preferences and market trends.

Princess Yachts' Exceptional Engineering Foundation

The iconic deep-V hull design and lightweight yet durable resin-infused hulls of Princess Yachts provide not only outstanding nautical performance for every yacht but also ample interior space.

Engineering Foundation

Before construction, each new model receives a complete internal and external plywood mock-up to ensure every detail, from workspace to layout, sightlines, and crew flow, is resolved.

Princess Yachts has a dedicated in-house furniture department that allows skilled carpenters to hone their craft. Princess Yachts is renowned for its exceptional joinery, fine woodwork, and exquisite curved furniture. Princess also has an on-site welding workshop capable of producing precise metalwork. For instance, rather than relying on a standard part like a cleat, this component can be custom designed and manufactured to match the curve of the transom.

Structured production for every new Princess Yacht model is managed through the "Loom Shop"—a department dedicated to the most efficient implementation and management of miles of wiring to facilitate the yacht's internal systems, from lighting to air conditioning, entertainment, and more.

Princess Yachts: Keeping Pace with the Times

Maintaining a style that consistently stands out in an ever-changing market is something Princess does very well, and it looks almost effortless. Known for their iconic deep-V hulls and uninterrupted hull windows that rake slightly at the centerline, the subtle "Princess DNA" is evident in the exterior profile of every new model. Functionality and flexibility are inherent in the ethos of every model.

However, there is one yacht in the lineup that the builder calls "Quintessentially Princess," and that is the Y85. Brought to market in 2020, the Y85 wasn't a brand-new model, but it has been one of the most popular yachts recently, with orders filled through 2024. A mid-cycle refresh updated the window lines to align with the modern exterior profiles that currently distinguish Princess designs and expanded the cockpit of this four-cabin beauty to further enhance the flexibility of the spacious outdoor entertainment area, while the open-plan single-level main deck and fully functional kitchen layout make this all-around premium yacht possible.

The Close Relationship Between Princess Yachts and Yacht Owners

In the continuous evolution of design, there is one very important consistency: the relationship between the brand and its owners. Most Princess owners are repeat customers, which is a testament to the builder's ability to design, manufacture, and build yachts that grow with their clients while remaining at the forefront of modern style.

Taiwan Princess Yachts is the official distributor of British Princess Yachts in Taiwan. James Nobel, PYA Vice President and Marketing Director, stated: "As a distributor, we are closely connected to our customers. We only deliver about 50 boats a year, so we can work with every client during the period from the yacht's construction to delivery. Having a pleasant owner experience is vital, and at Princess Yachts, we view this relationship as a lifelong ownership."

Nobel mentioned that the awe of people at the Fort Lauderdale show was evident. "We are showcasing outstanding products and will have the opportunity to demonstrate the evolution of our products and show the importance of the owner/designer relationship and experience at Princess Yachts."
